Acesa improves the Vilafranca del Penedès-Sitges exit on the a-7, at the junction with the c-15

Vehicles using the A-7’s Exit 29 (Vilafranca del Penedès-Vilanova i la Geltrú – Sitges), at the junction with the C-15, can now use the new lane built to smooth traffic flows. Acesa’s investment in the works totalled 1.6 million euros (266 million pesetas).

The works involved extending the Vilanova i la Geltrú - Sitges exit lane by 1,550 metres. The new lane passes under the C-15 highway and then joins it, thus avoiding a left-hand turn which could, in the past, cause small delays at times of heavy traffic. Average daily traffic (ADT) at this exit stands at 2,840 vehicles, a figure which increases at certain times (such as during the month of July) to 4,100 vehicles.

The works form part of the company’s Quality Plan, whose goal is to improve the service offered all its customers. It also aims to satisfy the needs highlighted by Vilafranca del Penedès and Olérdola Councils.

Integration in the surroundings

So as to minimise the environmental impact of the works and integrate them in their surroundings, ACESA is carrying out an important planting initiative involving 1,000 trees and shrubs, including pines, holm oaks and other species common to the region. This reforestation work is being rounded off with the sowing of 4,000 m3 of earth on the banks of the land, which is being treated with fertilisers from the Vilanova i la Geltrú recycling plant, and the hydro-seeding of the affected area.

The Archaeology Service of the Generalitat de Catalunya (the government of Catalonia), in co-ordination with ACESA’s Projects and Works Department, has confirmed that there are no archaeological remains in the area, following exhaustive checks and monitoring of the works to ensure the conservation of the area’s heritage.

The works, which began last summer, have significantly improved access to the junction, in the direction of both Vilafranca del Penedès and Vilanova i la Geltrú – Sitges, from the A-7, improving the flow of traffic in the area and enhancing convenience for users of both the motorway and the C-15.
