- The action "Te queda una vida. No la pierdas en la carretera" ("You've got one life left. Don't lose it on the road"), which is aimed at drivers under the age of 30 from the Community of Madrid, will be launched over the coming weekends.
- Those who test negative in drink-driving controls will receive a Madrid Card Cultura pass and be entered in a prize draw for an English course in Ireland.
- The initiative, launched by the abertis foundation, has the backing of the Ministry of the Interior, the Regional Office of the State Government, the Directorate General for Transit, Madrid City Council, the Red Cross, the Paraplegic Hospital of Toledo, Microsoft and companies of the abertis group.
As of next weekend, the abertis foundation will be launching an action to raise awareness among young people under the age of 30 from the Community of Madrid about the risks of driving. Young people who test negative in the drink-driving controls will be rewarded with a Madrid Card Cultura pass. The initiative, whose slogan is "You've got one life left. Don't lose it on the road", is part of the foundation's Road Safety Programme and has the backing of the Ministry of the Interior, the Regional Office of the State Government, the Directorate General for Transit, Madrid City Council, the Red Cross, the Paraplegic Hospital of Toledo, Microsoft and various companies of the abertis group.
The action was presented this afternoon at the Regional Office of the State Government in Madrid by Amparo Valcarce, regional representative of the State Government in Madrid, Pedro Luis Calvo Poch, Councillor for Safety and Mobility of Madrid City Council, Cristóbal Cremades, provincial head of Transit of the Community of Madrid; Antoni Riu, Deputy Director General of Road Education, Information and Training of the DGT, José Antonio López de la Manzara, medical director of the National Paraplegic Hospital of Madrid, Jesús María Mora, president of the Red Cross in the Community of Madrid, and Sergi Loughney, Director of the abertis foundation.
The action will be carried out on the nights of the next two weekends (9, 10 and 11, and 16, 17 and 18 of July). Volunteers of the Spanish Red Cross will accompany the Civil Guard and municipal police force of Madrid at 20 drink-driving checkpoints set up in the Community of Madrid and in the capital near nightlife areas.
Drivers under the age of 30 who test negative will be given a leaflet by volunteers with tips on safe and responsible driving. Each leaflet - a total of 500 will be distributed - comes with a Madrid Card Cultura pass, which gives free entry to over forty museums in the Community, besides special offers in culture and tourism. They will also be entered in the prize draw for an English course in Ireland.
