abertis CEO Francisco Reynés has been appointed to the Eutelsat board of directors. This appointment was approved yesterday by the board of the European satellite operator, in which abertis, through its telecoms subsidiary abertis telecom, is a reference shareholder with 31.4%.
Eutelsat is the leading satellite operator in Europe, with a market share of 30%, and the world’s third largest operator. With 27 satellites in geostationary orbit, its satellites give coverage to 90% of the world’s population and provide services to more than 3,400 television channels and a thousand radio broadcasters.
In the last financial year, which ended in June 2009, Eutelsat recorded revenues of €940.5 million, up 7.2%. EBITDA for the year was €742 million, with a margin of 80%. For 2009-2010, data for the first nine months to the end of last March showed revenue growth of 10.9%, which would give an figure of more than €1,035 million for the year ending in June.
abertis has three more representatives on the Eutelsat board of directors: Tobías Martínez, managing director of abertis telecom; Carlos Espinós, the managing director of abertis telecom’s satellite infrastructure division; and Andrea Luminari, director of abertis telecom’s international business division.
