Infopista Penedès, the new tourist information point on the motorway
IN AUGUST, TOURIST TRAFFIC ON THE A-7 SOUTH IS 73% HIGHER THAN THE ANNUAL AVERAGE
The Tourism Directorate-General of the Generalitat de Catalunya, the Provincial Tourist Board of the Diputació de Tarragona, the Tarragona City Tourist Board, Autopistas, Áreas and Areamed 2000 announce the opening today of a new tourist information point for motorway and service area users. Infopista Penedès is the third of such points along the network managed by Autopistas, following Infopista Montseny and Infopista Lleida.
This initiative, the result of collaboration between institutions involved, aims to improve the information provided on Catalonia’s tourist and cultural attractions on the A-7 South (Tarragona), one of the high capacity routes which sees a significant amount of tourist traffic over the summer. During July and August 2001, more than 3,600,000 cars used the motorway, over a quarter of the total traffic figure for the entire year.
Infopista Penedès, which is located at the el Penedès service area (within the province of Tarragona) first opened its doors on 1 August, with opening hours from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tourists who stop to take advantage of its facilities will be attended by staff from the participating institutions, and will able to obtain cultural information and details on any other tourist activity of interest to them.
At motorway service areas
For Autopistas, Infopista Penedès forms part of its network of motorway user information and help services. Over the course of the last year, it has implemented a range of information channels providing real-time traffic updates, such as the radio station Ona Pista (with broadcasts in Spanish, English and French over the summer), the web site www.autopistas.com and Infopista Montseny and Infopista Lleida. Furthermore, Autopistas offers a round-the-clock telephone hotline, the Telèfon Blau, on 902 20 03 20.
