saba, the car park subsidiary of abertis, has won a contract to build and manage a car park complex in Rome. The concession, awarded by Rome City Council will involve the existing Villa Borghese cark park –which saba currently manages- and will entail an investment of €92.5Mn.
The current underground car park will be enlarged by a further 200 spaces giving a total of 2,017. saba italia will also manage a new 81 space car park for tourist coaches which will be connected with Rome’s public transport system. The shopping area in the complex will also be enlarged to 17,200 m2 (currently 11,030 m2).
The agreement with Rome City Council also includes the construction of an operations and maintenance centre for the city’s electric buses with room for 55 vehicles measuring 9 metres in length and 123 vehicles measuring 5 meters in length. These buses will be used by the municipal public transport agency. The project also involves managing the existing 230-space motorbike parking facility.
