abertis telecom's entry in the satellite sector complements its position in the terrestrial signal transport network. Its growth in this direction is reflected by the acquisition of a 33.4% stake in Hispasat, making it the largest shareholder. The growth and development of the Hispasat project in Spanish speaking countries benefit greatly from the contribution made by abertis.
Hispasat has a fleet of 6 communications satellites providing coverage to Europe and South America and reaching 100% of the worldwide Spanish-speaking market and 90% of the Portuguese-speaking market.
Also, abertis telecom has a 15.3% stake in Eutelsat, the Europe’s leading satellite operator. With a fleet of 27 satellites in geostationary orbit, Eutelsat has a market share of 30% in the European continent and it is the world’s third-largest operator, with a market share of 13%.
