Autopistas, an Abertis Group Company, has fully implemented the free flow system in the AP-7 toll road. This system allows for passing through the toll booth at a 60 kilometers/hour speed avoiding drivers to wait for the green light or for the barrier’s opening.
Autopistas has invested €1.4Mn in this project. The islets in the VIA-T (teletoll) lanes have been removed a fast road has been put up. In direction to France, two lanes in the left are now exclusively used for drivers using VIA-T. The pavement of these lanes is marked by blue stretches and the VIA-T symbol in order to be easily identified.
During the first week of operations, the new lanes, which were opened to the public on March 27, have hosted a daily average of 140,000 vehicles. This initiative is aimed to increase the fluidity of traffic and make more comfortable the passage of vehicles with VIA-T.
This project places the AP-7 as the first high-quality, high-capacity road of Spain to set up the free flow system. Autopistas reinforces its commitment to innovative mobility solutions with the aim of offering safe, intelligent and high-capacity roads.
