Let’s talk a little about the innards of your car, specifically the part that allows your smart device to connect to it. In a market dominated by Android Auto and Apple’s CarPlay system, Toyota was one of the brands that had yet to choose between the two alternatives.
The Japanese brand has recently ended its position in no-man’s land with the decision to opt for a Linux-based system called Automotive Grade Linux (AGL). The biggest advantage of AGL is its extremely flexible configuration structure, allowing different solutions depending on the vehicle type and model.
The first Toyota to incorporate AGL will be the Camry model, built for the US market. Its launch is scheduled for 2018.
